To be the last one standing can be a lonely and ultimately unsatisfactory place to be. You may have put an immense amount of effort to be the last one standing, but once you are there, there is no one else to whole-heartedly celebrate a victory or triumph. There will always be at least a touch of envy and frequently some resentment of your success. True, you may be admired, but there will a distance between you and others that you have bested; one always stands a bit separated from everyone when victorious. Or one may have endured immense trials and tribulations, have attempted to rescue others in danger, and have failed to save them from physical or mental disaster. When you are the only one left standing you are also left lonely and alone and without recourse to support systems you’ve depended upon in the past. In both cases you do have choices: you can choose to re-engage with people or groups you have ‘defeated,’ recognizing that you have ‘won’ in only one contest and making sure you feel a connection and realize you are only human and will inevitably ‘fail’ at some time. In the other case you can choose to make the best of the situation and devise ways to reconstruct a different world for yourself. Isn’t it best to think of reconnecting with others when making your choice?
Balance applies to everything and balance between anything and everything is crucial to our survival and the survival of the planet. Whether we talk about the physical balance of objects and beings or we talk of the balance between ideologies or religion we are all involved in a balancing act all the time and in this we don’t have many choices. The most important thing to see is that we are all involved in and with being balanced. If we don’t recognize that fact we can create a myriad of problems for ourselves and others. When we lean too far in one direction or another we stand the risk of falling and taking others, friends or enemies, down with us. We must recognize that the only choice we have is to strive to remain balanced and to help others to do so or to refuse to continue to retain our own balance and thoughtlessly affect who knows how many others. Once we’ve achieved balance to one degree or another for ourselves the effect can domino and our environment becomes easier to live in and offers more pleasure since our balance leads to the balance of more and more of the planet. Do you think life can be lived well without balance?
We may think that through no fault of our own we have become involved in a situation or are held by circumstances in a position we do not like and have not chosen. Once we look more carefully at where we are and how we came to be there we may find that this not entirely the truth of the matter. Our choices can bring us to a place where we are so entwined with others or with our own thoughts it looks to us as those we have no further choices. When we are in that place instead of remaining there and blaming our position on fate we can and should recognize the fact that we still have choices we can make that will free us from our entanglements, but that can happen only if we truly want to be able to make our own choices. A clear look at the choices we’ve made from the beginning of out situation up to the present can show us other directions to go. We may find that other directions are difficult or painful and we must ask ourselves if enduring some pain or difficulty is worth the end result. For only we are truly able to direct the course of our lives and it is our responsibility to do so. Isn’t freedom worth the pain or difficulty we must go thought to maintain it?
No matter how much we might like the limelight or how much we might like to hide ourselves from view, there are times when we all must sing, whether we are small or great, and we all must sing solo. When that urge or that need comes upon we can choose to show everything we’ve got to an audience of one to hundreds, or we can lay out our accomplishments alone, only for ourselves. Not all tasks, work, pleasures, or needs must be performed in company. There are many that we and our culture prefer to occur in private, but with many activities it is assumed that one not only will perform them in company, but that prefers to. When this is not the case it is difficult make one’s true wishes known, especially if one is talented in some particular way; the assumption is made that one must want to show that accomplishment off, even given clear evidence to the contrary. If you wish to keep some things private and enjoy giving them to yourself, then that is something that not only must be made clear, but one must follow up that wish with firm opposition to any kind of persuasion being leveled at one. Shouldn’t you be the one in charge of distributing your own gifts?
There are times that we may feel that we have a real grasp on things; on our lives, on our goals and ambitions, on our moods. Unbeknownst to us this may not necessarily be true. We could be teetering on the edge of a cliff and not even know it or the cliff may be undermined or crumbling and in a very precarious position itself. In order to have an idea of the reality of our position we must look carefully and objectively at ourselves and our set of choices. It is important that we not let our moods interfere with objectivity, though that is probably the hardest thing any of us can do, and make a realistic assessment about moves we should and can make. If we find we are in a precarious position, the most important thing for us is to know that we have a backup plan if things do not turn out the way we had hoped they would. Part of that backup plan should include a person, a person who knows all of you and who you can trust implicitly; for they may be the one who saves your life in one way or another. One can always get out of a precarious position, but first you have to know that is where you are. Isn’t acknowledging a precarious position better than jumping with your eyes closed?
Being mesmerized is a state that one can allow, but the choice must be made for and by oneself only. The same holds true if you are attempting to mesmerize others; if you find you have a mesmerizing power over them, the choice must be theirs whether or not they wish to continue with the process. Mesmerizing or hypnotizing can have very beneficial effects on a person, as in healing, relieving tension, or to reach another, more restful and energizing place in your mind. But being hypnotized can also lead to negative places besides leaving you in the power of another person. You must know that person very well before trusting your mind and body to him or her. The temptation to abuse the openness of another can be very strong since most people don’t feel they have much power over their own lives. You can also mesmerize yourself and feel the benefits of the mesmerized state with no risk, as long as you find a safe and comfortable place to use and to ensure you won’t be interrupted. In a trance state one is vulnerable even to oneself so it is best to go into the experience with a clear purpose in mind and to direct oneself to stay with that purpose. Don’t you think being mesmerized would be best to use with trust in yourself or another?
Whether in times of adversity or in times of plenty there will always be something that is fruitful. It could be a plant, edible or not; it could be people, wise or not; it could be too plentiful, such as water or heat. In times of a lack of a certain fruit it would be wise to research the usefulness of another one; we may not understand or want, for one reason or another, to change our usage habits, but that may be the only way to go to ensure health and vitality. The reason for too little fruit of the edible kind is often people and the lack is generally restricted to certain geographical areas. Though one cannot dictate to others how their lives and communities should be run, it would be wise for these communities to take a look at how they are impacting their own lives by indiscriminately increasing the population. This may take educators and that may be the task of others outside the community. When there is too much of a good thing the most obvious and best plan for the extra is to share and distribute the excess to others who are in need. There are occasions where there may be too much water or too much sun and heat. Again, and with the scientific knowledge we now have we should be able to channel these excesses into help for others or into relief for the ones suffering. Isn’t it best to share the excesses and lacks of fruitfulness?
